Tips and Hints

At Design Awards we are all for making life easier for the client. There are also many ways you can help us to get the job done quicker, better and potentially cheaper.
Below are just some tips and hints you may want to consider. Of course you are welcome to call and chat anytime you need a hand or some advice.

  • Timing expectations

As you can imagine anything handmade is going to take a bit of time. It all depends on the design or the materials used. For example a simple acrylic block is likely to be quicker to produce than a cast bronze and polished horse. So allow as much time as you can but on average you are looking at 4 to 6 weeks and perhaps longer for castings and special projects.

  • Open to ideas
As Design Awards usually make awards from scratch there are many ways to go about a project. This means there needs to be a certain amount of flexibility from everyone involved. Design Awards tries to be flexible, innovative and open to ideas and we would love our clients to share this attitude.
  • QUALITY/COST/TIME     Choose 2
Not a rule just something to bear in mind. For example if you want a QUALITY item URGENTLY then it's not going to be as CHEAP as chips. On the other hand a budget item is not going to be made out of gold bullion but can probably be turned around quickly. But whatever two you choose you can be sure Design Awards will always strive for QUALITY and great VALUE as QUICKLY as humanly possible.
  • Artwork File formats
Hi Res PDF with embedded fonts
Illustrator 3 EPS Vector files with text outlined
CorelDraw 8 or 3
Excel and Word 2003
Design Awards use many specialised programs and files saved back to early versions help files work across all platforms.
  • Design, consultation and a cuppa

Just ask and we can provide initial designs and quote free of charge. We are happy to meet at our workshop (A cup of tea or coffee is always available) or at your offices to kick ideas around, sketch concepts or simply show examples. We can even make a mock up before commencing production (of course conditions apply). Basically you can rely on Design Awards to get involved all you have to do is call.

  • Handmade and crafted

Design Awards does not buy cheap, machine manufactured plastic trophies and stick a name plate on them. Using the finest of raw materials, everything is either cut, sculpted, bent, cast, built or polished by hand. This means there are some small variation in each award or trophy. This is the very essence of why clients come to Design Awards; Each and every award is unique in some subtle way and that's what make them unique..

Having your award handmade isn't as expensive as you might imagine.

Design Awards have perfected many techniques to streamline the manufacturing proccess that make handcrafted awards just as viable as "off the shelf" products.

Why not call to discuss your project as Design Awards offer a free design and quote service?
