12 Apr The John Belisario Memorial Award: Design Update
We love awards because they are the best way to show someone that they deserve distinction, that someone has done something exceptional. And so when a client comes to us with an award which is of low quality and doesn’t reflect a level of craftsmanship and prestige the award recipient deserves, it gives us no better joy than to take this award and step it up to a whole new level.
The John Belisario Memorial Award represents the peak in Anaesthesia and Sedation in Dentistry within Australia, named after the acclaimed early 19th century dental pioneer. The Australian Society for Dental Anaesthesiology (ASDA) came to us with their old award plaque to ask us to give this esteemed award a much needed design update.
What they came to us with looked and felt like an old relic, despite the fact the year 2012 was emblazoned on the front. ASDA’s request? To make the award modern and sleek. The old design was made up of a tinted aluminium sheet on a dated timber base. Our solution was to opt for a brushed aluminium plate mounted on a black piano base. Our designers also spruced up the typography and enhanced the image of Dr Belisario himself, putting him pride of place up the top of award, floating above the plaque to give a three dimensional effect. Check out the before and after photos.
The result is something that a Dental Anaesthesiologist could be proud to hang up in their 21st century clinic. We are very quietly chuffed with the result and have thoroughly enjoyed working on this project.
